The Freedom Committee of Orange County and the Newport Mesa Unified School District annually presents its centerpiece Living History Project engaging Sophomore collaboration teams of 3-5 students who meet, interview and create a video report about their US military veteran and their service to our country.
The project was birthed in 2011 by Denise Weiland, Living History Project Coordinator, at Corona del Mar High School. The project and has now expanded to include other high school campuses in the NMUSD.
The Corona del Mar HS Living History Project now has grown to include a gala luncheon event held annually in March in which Veterans are hosted by their student teams at a luncheon celebrating the story of Sacrificial Service attended by nearly 100 veterans and 300+ Sophomore Class students plus representative from the district and the community.
The luncheon event is a compelling culminating experience for Veterans and their student teams. With meaningful bonds now established, Vets are individually introduced and brief storytelling is presented by selected student team members who talk about their Living History experience encounter with a Vet. The 2015 celebration recognized Vets from WW II to the Afghanistan War.
For the last 4 years, Passkeys Foundation has provided funding for the Veteran Lunches and in the last two years has expanded its financial support to provide transportation underwriting for the Freedom Committee of OC to have Veterans attend speaker forums and interviews at newly emerging Living History Project high school campuses in the district.
Passkeys needs financial underwriting help from Influencers for Good who would like to collaborate on the 2016 Living History funding goal of $2500.00
A Living History Project charitable donation to Passkeys Foundation will help touch the lives of many students who will have an experience of meeting and interacting with a Veteran ready to engage students in the Giveback called Service above Self.
Thank you for your Giveback Into The Community charitable gift to Passkeys Foundation.
